About the UK

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK) or Britain. Great Britain consists of England, Scotland and Wales. The country is located off the north-western coast of continental Europe.

By 18th century, it had developed from a small island with native tribes frequently invaded into the foremost global power, the British Empire ‘on which the sun never sets’. As a result, its political, legal, linguistic, and cultural legacy is widespread. It’s English language,  constitutional monarchy, Industrial Revolution,  and cultural export  have great influence on the world.

Nowadays, the British Empire no longer exists, but the UK is still one of the world’s leading countries. With its fascinating history and culture, rich literature and art, world leading educational system, and places of historic and natural interest everywhere in the country, it has attracted people from all over the world.

Things to Do Before Coming

  • Bring a correct adaptor plug for UK plugs.
  • Apply for international roaming plan for your mobile phone in your country, or just bring a SIM-free phone and buy a local SIM card.
  • Make your luggage light when coming as most people need space for taking  souvenirs back .
  • Bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste as most hotels don’t provide these as in some other countries.
  • Make a note of your name, passport number, addresses of home and school, telephone numbers of  people emergency contacts and carry it with you all the time.
  • Bring around £200 in cash.
